As we prepare for our weekend of PRIDE here in Columbus, I just want to take a moment to say this weekend was full of emotions in our house. We balanced the horror of the Orlando shooting with the beauty of our youngest's first dance recital. We had family coming in from out of town to celebrate, while friends and "family" in FL were in shock and having to travel to try to find answers and/or confirmation. My Facebook feeds had friends from Orlando checking in as "safe," whether they were LGBTQ or Allies. Family members who moved recently from that area spent hours communicating with any and everyone they know in the areas, to sometimes merely say, "I love you."
I try to never forget to appreciate my family, both my immediate family and my extended family. This weekend, I made sure I told as many people as I could how important they are to me. I followed the chatter on social media and reposted the love and positive actions of others. And I cried.
Senseless loss of life is tragic. Acts of violence against fellow humans should never be tolerated. Today, Orlando, I share your pain. And I share your anger. And I send you love, prayers, and strength.
